Thomas Street Middle School Expansion: It’s Getting Done

Friday, September 06, 2024

Dear Friend,

In June of 2020, I joined the then Minister of Education and the local school board trustee in Mississauga to announce an expansion of Thomas Street Middle School.

It was a project that we had been pushing for for a long time.  And we were excited to finally be able to make the announcement (albeit with some social distancing in effect).

Four years later, the $4.7 million renovation project is now complete.  I am happy to announce today that Thomas Street Middle School will be welcoming new students this fall for the 2024-25 school year.

This project includes:

  • An addition to the rear of the building
  • 138 new elementary student spaces for local families
  • 3 new beach volleyball courts sponsored by Pakmen
  • 4 new pickleball courts
  • 6 basketball courts

This project is just a small part of a $16 billion commitment by the government to support school construction, renewals, and improvements across Ontario.

Whereas previous governments underinvested in schools, forcing students to learn in crowded classrooms and portables, our government is investing to support the education system.

Already, we are seeing students enjoy these new facilities while receiving a high-quality back-to-basics education.
