Breaking Down Trade Barriers and Opening New Markets for Ontario

As the U.S. closes doors to Canadian products, Ontario is opening new ones right here at home.

With new U.S. tariffs and import bans targeting Canadian goods, our Ontario PC team is leading the country in breaking down interprovincial trade barriers and creating new opportunities for Ontario workers and businesses.

For too long, outdated barriers between provinces have made it harder and more expensive to do business within our own country, costing the Canadian economy up to $200 billion every year.

Ontario is changing that.

We are the first and only province to eliminate all of our exceptions under the Canadian Free Trade Agreement, helping goods, services and workers move more freely across provincial borders.

Through the Protect Ontario through Free Trade within Canada Act and the Canadian Mutual Recognition Agreement, we’re also working to ensure that a good or service approved in another province is recognized here in Ontario, while allowing certified professionals from across Canada to begin working in Ontario within 10 business days.

And we’re opening new markets for Ontario-made products.

Ontario has joined with other provinces to make it easier for consumers across Canada to buy beer, wine and spirits directly from Canadian producers, giving Ontario wineries, breweries and distilleries more opportunities to grow and reach new customers.

Breaking down these barriers will also help protect Ontario’s steel industry as U.S. tariffs put jobs and businesses at risk. By opening up trade within Canada, we can create more opportunities to build Canadian projects with Canadian steel.

As President Trump continues to target our economy, Doug Ford and our Ontario PC team will use every tool available to protect Ontario workers and businesses, strengthen our strategic industries and build a more competitive, self-reliant and resilient economy. When it comes to breaking down barriers and standing up for Ontario, we’re leading the way.
