Healthcare and Long-term Care
Hospitals and Healthcare
After years of neglect, the Ontario PCs are working hard to ensure that our healthcare system is well-equipped for any future challenges. In order to ensure our province is never again be unprepared for future health crises, we introduced A Plan to Stay Open — a comprehensive legislative agenda that will ensure our hospitals are staffed and PPE fully-stocked. We provided a $5000 retention bonus to each full-time nurse, and we increased training opportunities for nurses and doctors.
Sheref Sabawy and the Ontario PCs will work hard to expand our healthcare system and build new hospitals. As part of this, a new Mississauga Hospital of Trillium Health Partners will be constructed at the intersection of Hurontario St and Queensway W. This redeveloped hospital will include one of the largest emergency departments in Ontario and over 350 new beds. Additionally, the existing Queensway Health Centre will be expanded, adding 150 new beds.
After decades of neglect by governments of all stripes, the Ontario PCs are committed to finally improving long-term care in Ontario. To address this crisis, the PC government introduced the Fixing Long-Term Care Act which increased inspections of LTC homes and will establish an average of 4 hours of direct care per day. We also addressed the staffing crisis by investing a record $4.9 billion and hiring 27,000 staff.
Mississauga will soon be home to the VMSA-Mississauga LTC Home, a 128-bed long-term care home on Eglinton Ave. With this latest announcement, Mississauga now has 1880 new and upgraded LTC beds either completed or in development. Overall, this is just part of the PC government’s commitment to invest $6.4 billion and build more than 30,000 net new beds by 2028.
